MEXICO's FIRST HOTEL CERTIFIED AS A B-CORPORATION

Since its opening in 2012, the eco-friendly Hotel El Ganzo has continually emphasized on being a social enterprise with a focus on environmental and social business practices.  In 2020 our management team started the process of applying to obtain the coveted B Corp certifications. In April 2022, a significant milestone in El Ganzo’s journey has been achieved:

Hotel El Ganzo is the first hotel in Mexico to achieve this!

Certified B Corps are businesses that meet the highest standards of verified social and environmental responsibility, public transparency, and legal responsibility to achieve a long-term balance of profits and purpose. Over 4500 businesses in 79 countries with over 150 different industries are working together to redefine business practices with the goal to make the world a better place. Some well-established businesses such as Patagonia, Ben & Jerry’s, Method, Bombas, All Birds, Prose, and Cotopaxi are part of this movement.

As a guest of Hotel El Ganzo, we invite you to be part of this opportunity to positively impact the people and environment of San Jose del Cabo and La Playa. Together, we can reduce some of the planet’s most significant environmental, economic, and socio-cultural threats.

EL GANZO´s COMMITMENT

The management team’s mission is to reduce inequality, lower poverty levels, build a healthier environment, a stronger community, and create more high-quality jobs with dignity and purpose. To make these positive changes, we are working in five key areas of Corporate Social Responsibility:

Energy, Water, Waste, Carbon Footprint, and Education.

EL GANZO COMMUNITY:

We emphasize community support on all levels by focusing on diversity, equality, and inclusion.

  • El Ganzo’s Community Center was established in 2015 on empty land adjacent to the hotel. The Center is a place for creation, socialization, and education. La Playa’’s local youth can explore their artistic inner self while connecting with others. The Center is designed as a nurturing environment where our children can learn creative techniques with materials of all kinds, participate in English classes and grab some food.
  • To create an economic impact, we support our local businesses first. Products and raw materials are purchased, whenever possible, from local suppliers. We employ fair business practices in our purchasing negotiations and never push to lower pricing with our local suppliers.
  • We hire and train staff locally whenever possible. El Ganzo offers language, service, and technical education at no cost during work hours to our employees.
  • Our responsibility is to support our community during times of need; we look to give back as much as possible. During the pandemic, we created GANZOAYUDA, a relief fund that helped support more than 350 families during the Covid crisis and to this date.
  • We work with Water Matters, the first Mexican company to package water in cardboard that helps support communities without access to drinking water.

We encourage our guests to participate in our programs by offering them the ability to support our Community Center via donations or purchase carbon offset credits to support sustainable travel.

ENVIRONMENT:

  • We’ve implemented an Environmental Management System that measures our polluting emissions to help us reduce and monitor our waste.
  • We continually offer ongoing energy-saving campaigns and educational programs.
  • We compost all of our food waste and only work with certified suppliers that can prove that the final destination of all refuse and waste is disposed of per the Mexican law and environmental practices.
  • We measure the carbon footprint impact generated by each guest and purchase carbon bonds to reverse the effect.
  • We’ve teamed up with Nautilus Dive Tech, a local diving center, to help clean our oceans by offering diving trash challenges.
  • Our Rooftop pool is heated with solar power. We are in the process of adapting an Electroporation system that eliminates all bacteria from the water. This system works with an oxidation technique that reduces organic or inorganic matter and generates active chlorine from the chlorides naturally present in water without modifying it externally.
  • We use a Nopal (a native cactus) laundry detergent that reduces water, gas, and electricity.
  • We grow our own herbs and microgreens in our organic garden.
  • Our bath salts and amenities are locally sourced and packaged in recyclable materials.
  • We have eliminated single use plastics and offer  water  stations.

COMMITMENT TO OUR EMPLOYEES:

  • Looking to support the financial security of our team, we’ve created a Safety Financial Program for our staff.
  • The health & safety of our workers is a top priority for us. All of our collaborators are registered with the IMSS (public healthcare system). We also have an in-house medic attending to any needs of our employees and their direct families 24/7.
  • We offer employee meals and provide food vouchers for their expenses.
  • Career Development is essential at Hotel El Ganzo. We work with specialized companies to educate our management staff with personalized training programs.
  • Engagement with our employees is a core pillar; We conduct an organizational climate survey to see how collaborators think about working with us every six months.
  • During challenging times like the pandemic, Hotel el Ganzo stood with its employees when the hotel was closed and continued to pay their wages.

As a guest of Hotel El Ganzo, we invite you to be part of this opportunity to positively impact the people and environment of San Jose del Cabo and La Playa. We can reduce some of the planet’s most significant environmental, economic, and socio-cultural threats.

All of our guests are invited to donate on their visit to support El Ganzo Community Center.
