Born in Guadalajara, Jalisco, in 1984, Álvaro Ugarte is a visual artist whose practice lies at the intersection of visual arts, performance, and social research. With a degree in Social Sciences of Communication, his training has provided him with the tools to approach art from its social implications and the methodologies applied in his research. His work is characterized by the creation of scenarios or situations that function as devices for engagement among members of a community, resulting in sculptures, installations, performances, or documentary records. He has participated in artist residencies at institutions such as HIAP in Helsinki, Jan van Eyck Academie in Maastricht, Hangar in Lisbon, and Casa Wabi in Oaxaca. His work has been exhibited in various national and international spaces, including the Museo de Arte de Zapopan, Casa de Lago in Mexico City, and Chalton Gallery in London. He is also co-founder of the artistic collective La Favorita and Salón ACME, an annual art event in Mexico City. His practice continues to explore mental structures and social behaviors, questioning how the mind functions within specific social contexts.
