Armando Rosales is a Venezuelan artist who graduated as a Bachelor of Graphic Design from the University of Zulia. He has participated in multiple group exhibitions from 2005 to date. In 2010 he created AL BORDE (Exhibition space) as Co-director and founding member, this space was the first space run by artists from the city of Maracaibo, and he made almost 30 exhibitions in 3 years. His work has been exhibited in group exhibitions in Venezuela, Mexico, Germany and Finland, among others. Some of his solo exhibitions are: “Minor Works / The Amount of the Debt,” SOMA, Mexico City (2016); "Go Against and Not," Bikini Wax, Mexico City (2015); “The New Name,” SOMA, Mexico City (2015); "Ensayo Dominion (E), Office # 1," Caracas, Venezuela (2013-2014); "Parody on escape," Office # 1, Caracas, Venezuela (2011).
Rosales received the AMEXCID Excellence Grant for Special Programs from the Government of Mexico (2015); he won the section of the International Association of Art Critics (AICA) in Venezuela in the category of emerging artists (2010); received first prize for the open call of Office # 1 in Caracas, Venezuela (2010); received an honorable mention at the XIII Supercable Youth Hall with the FIA, "Where we all fit", curatorship of Nydia Gutiérrez, Centro Cultural Corp Banca Caracas (2010); received an honorable mention in the 5th Salon for Young Artists, Museum of Contemporary Art of Zulia (MACZUL), Venezuela (2009); received third prize at the 4th Salon for Young Artists, MACZUL, Venezuela (2009); He received first prize in the 2nd Salon of Young Artists, MACZUL, Venezuela (2006).
His practice extends to curatorial interests. In 2015 he organized a curatorial exercise on Physical Production of the Mandate, during Velada Remix in Hamburg, Germany. He was director and founding member of Al Borde, the first artist to manage an independent art space in Maracaibo, Venezuela, who produced more than twenty-five exhibitions and received a grant from the Fundación Cisneros Collection / Patricia Phelps Cisneros (2010-2014). His works are part of several collections, among them: Museum of Contemporary Art of Zulia, Venezuela; Lia Bermúdez Art Center, Venezuela; Patricia Phelps de Cisneros Collection (Venezuela, United States), and several private collections.
This piece was created after a conversation with the people he was sharing room with, and after watching the additive nature of the rest of the interventions. He felt an interest for taking something out instead of adding.
The fan blade, painted with the same white paint from the ceiling, creates a visual instability when you try to catch the movement of it, appealing to the approximation of the use of space and balance.
La pieza surge tras una conversación con los compañeros de habitación, y de observar la naturaleza aditiva del resto de las
intervenciones; surgió un interés por quitar algo más allá de agregar.
El aspa del ventilador, pintado con la misma pintura blanca del techo, crea un desequilibrio visual en la manera de percibir el
movimiento del mismo, apelando a las aproximaciones al uso del espacio y al equilibrio.
