Originally from Guadalajara (born in 1980), Daniel Monroy Cuevas studied Audiovisual Arts in the same city and continued his film training at the Vancouver Film School in Canada. Between 2011 and 2013, he participated in the SOMA program in Mexico City. His most notable solo exhibitions include “BETASOM” (Casa de Francia, Mexico City, 2019), “How I Learned to Steal (A Chapter on My Drawing Lessons)” (Arredondo/Arozarena Gallery, Mexico City, 2019), and “We Know What Fire Is Like” (ESPAC, Mexico City, 2018). Project: “And the Ship Sails On…,” an outdoor film series curated by Daniel Monroy Cuevas.The series is conceived as an exploration of cinematic works in which nature takes center stage in the imagery and the development of the film’s narrative, and is inspired by the geographical conditions and biodiversity of Baja California. With a focus on the desert and the sea, the films to be screened engage with the unique ecosystem of San José del Cabo and the Hotel El Ganzo. Explorations of inhospitable terrain, encounters and misalignments with nature and thought, and catharsis at the limits of established cartography are some of the themes explored in the feature-length and short films that make up the series.The goal is to share meaningful cinematic experiences with hotel guests and the public in San José del Cabo that spark an interest in aspects of nature that might otherwise go unnoticed in the course of daily life.
